Bike to the Market – this Saturday!

This Saturday, July 27th, you won’t want to miss Bike to the Market Day !

At the market, from 8am-1pm, you’ll find performances by Open Eye Figure Theatre, a group ride led by Angry Catfish Bicycle Shop and Coffee Bar , performances organized by Ben Weaver, reusable bag making with artists Lauren Callis and Laura Brown – all sponsored by The Hub Bike Co-op.

Make sure to get you Bicycle Rewards Program card punched – find us at the green info tent for more information!

Keep you market-fresh goodies lasting longer!

So you’ve stocked up on fruits and veggies at the market, but how do you make sure you can eat all that nutrient-packed goodness in time (and without creating more waste in the form of plastic)? Storage is key! Here are some tips from the Hennepin County Green Partners newsletter:

  • Berries: Store berries in an airtight container unwashed in either the fridge or refrigerator.
  • Melon: Store melon in a cool, dry place out of the sun. Once ripe, store melons in the fridge. Cubed melon can be frozen in an airtight container for smoothies.
  • Milk: Keep milk in the main part of the fridge, not in the door. The door is often warmer than other parts of the fridge.
  • Corn: Put corn in the fridge with husks on or freeze it with the kernels cut from the cob.

Check out these resources to help spread the word on preventing food waste:

AND be on the lookout for residential organics recycling kits – coming to the market SOON!
